Located between Westminster and Chelsea, Belgravia is widely considered to be one of the most exclusive residential districts in central London. The area we now know as Belgravia was originally known as Five Fields and was once one of London’s most notorious crime hotspots. Under the direction of Thomas Cubitt, the land was developed in the early 19th century by Richard Grosvenor, 2nd Marquess of Westminster, who focused on developing grand terraces centred on Belgrave Square and Eaton Sq.
The traditional white stucco fronted town houses that were the foundation of Belgravia, which include grand crescents and garden squares, are as sought after today by the rich and famous as they ever were. Along with this traditional architecture, Belgravia now boasts numerous other property options such as modern penthouse apartments and mews houses.
Belgravia is famed for its unique ‘village’ atmosphere and in recent years, The Grosvenor Estate has developed Elizabeth, Motcomb and Ebury Streets, working tirelessly to retain a community environment. This has allowed for an eclectic mix of restaurants, boutique shops, cafes and patisseries to develop, all of which contribute towards a unique atmosphere and a buzz of activity for residents and visitors alike. Transport links here are also excellent, with London Victoria providing both overground and underground services. Train lines include the Gatwick Express, Brighton Mainline and Southern Services to South London, Surrey and Sussex, whilst the underground allows for easy access in to and around the City.
